Gatorland KISSIMMEE At Gatorland, love is in the air, and from the safety and convenience of a 3 story observation tower and elevated walkways, visitors to Gatorland's Alligator Breeding Marsh and Bird Rookery have a unique opportunity to view the courtship, mating, nesting, and feeding behaviors of wild birds in their native habitat. The nesting season has already begun with Double Crested Cormorants already building several nests, the Greater Egrets are also in courtship with nest building scheduled to begin around Jan. 12, 2004. Protected by the alligators from their natural predators, birds such as Herons, Egrets, Cormorants, Anhingas, Ibis, and Storks have turned the Alligator Breeding Marsh into one of the largest and most accessible Bird Rookeries in Central Florida. An oasis of nature in what is fast becoming suburban sprawl, the Gatorland Alligator Breeding Marsh and Bird Rookery was chosen in November 2000 by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, as part of its Great Florida Birding Trail.
